Industry Associations Nasscom opens UK chapter Our Bureau
New Delhi , Sept. 18 NASSCOM, the apex industry body representing the Indian software and service companies, on Thursday announced the opening of its UK chapter, marking the first formal presence of the IT industry association internationally. The UK chapter of Nasscom will be based in the office of Hill and Knowlton office, the international public relations and public affairs company in London. Speaking at the launch of the chapter, the Nasscom President, Mr Kiran Karnik, said, "with the globalisation of the Indian software and service industry, there was an increased realisation to have a Nasscom presence in the UK and, hence, are delighted to have a Nasscom chapter opened in the UK. The chapter aims to serve as the voice of Nasscom in the UK and the adjoining region, raise awareness about Indian IT industry advantages and its high quality image." The Nasscom's UK chapter will represent its members in the UK and the adjoining region and strengthen the relationship with the other industry representative bodies and the Government organisations. It will also offer a platform to Nasscom members to share ideas and best practices. The chapter will be a one-point contact for the UK companies planning to outsource their software and services requirements to an offshore location. The chapter will also act as a catalyst for Indian companies looking to set up offices in the UK. A Nasscom statement here said that the UK was an important destination for the Indian IT industry with 14 per cent of the Indian software and service exports orders coming from the region. It also serves as a gateway to other European countries and the new chapter is expected to help catalyse the initiative further. According to Mr Karnik, the UK chapter will work closely with the Indian High Commission base to resolve issues and concerns that act as an impediment to the growth of member companies in the region.
