THE German airline, Lufthansa, in association with Mobile2Win is organising the first live auction through SMS in India on September 25.

On auction will be tickets to various European and North American destinations such as New York, London and Frankfurt, among others.

Participants are required to SMS `LUFT' to 8558 on September 25 to take part in the auction. Thereafter, the participant will be registered and will be allowed to participate in the bidding process. The first auction begins at 10.30 a.m. and each auction is expected to last 30 minutes with the winner for each auction being informed immediately.

While the bidding for an air ticket will start at zero rupee, increase in bids will only be accepted for either Rs 2,000, Rs 3,000 or Rs 4,000.The winners will have to contact the airlines within 48 hours of winning.

"After successfully introducing and conducting several live Internet auctions in India, we have taken yet another step forward towards creating excitement and enhancing customer service with the introduction of the first live ticket auction through the SMS. This is a logical move to cater to the wireless media given the substantial growth of mobile subscribers in India," the airlines General Manager, Passenger Sales and Director, South Asia, Mr Werner Heesen, said.
