Mumbai , Sept. 19 THE Indian Music Industry (IMI) and MTV Networks India on Friday announced a partnership to host a music awards show called the Indian Music Excellence Awards (Immies). The awards will be presented across 23 categories, ranging from indipop to international, and ghazal to devotional to remixes. Any artiste performing in India will be eligible for the awards, and nominations can be made for music in Hindi or Hindi/Punjabi released in India. The Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) will manage the nomination and voting process along with MTV and IMI, and conduct a quantitative study of the nominations received in the popular categories across seven cities. The final nominations of these categories will be put up for a Viewers Choice Vote on MTV; there will also be a separate jury for other categories. Airtel is the presenting sponsor of the awards, which will be held on December 12, and this year's show is also sponsored by LG Electronics India and Maruti (brand Alto). The event will be executed by MTV India along with an international MTV team, and will be telecast on MTV and Sony Entertainment Television (SET) on December 14; a repeat telecast will also be shown on Max. Leading up to the show, MTV will have over 80 hours of dedicated programming and 1,700 promos, supported by print ads, outdoor, online and on-ground activities. "The industry has had a long-standing desire to honour talent, and to institutionalise Indian music awards," said Mr V.J. Lazarus, President, IMI, at the announcement. "This is a serious commitment to the industry and the artistes." Given the involvement of MTV and the support of the IMI, this will be a credible Indian music awards show, said Mr Alex Kuruvilla, Managing Director, MTV Networks India. The awards will take forward Airtel's association with MTV, which began with the mobile youth card launched recently, said Mr Atul Jhambh, CEO, Bharti Cellular Ltd, Mumbai Circle.
