New Delhi , Sept. 18

THE Kolkata-based Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has emerged the top winner in the `World chambers competition' held, for the first time, at the 3rd World Chambers Congress in Quebec, Canada, from September 15-17.

The ICC, according to its statement here, occupied the coveted top position beating contenders from Ireland, Italy and Spain. Besides, it is the only chamber from a developing nation to have been short-listed for the top honours among 29 competing nations that participated in the contest.

The Environment Management Centre (EMC) of the ICC was adjudged the `Best unconventional project.' The EMC, set up to offer comprehensive one-stop servicing solutions for local companies, has already become the largest revenue earner among all services offered by the chamber. "This award has done our nation proud. It is, indeed, a historic moment for the Indian Chamber of Commerce to receive this recognition for its unique initiative," said the ICC President, Mr Vikram Thapar, who is now in Turkey as a member in the Prime Minister's delegation.
