Software Emerson Network sees India centre as key hub Preeti Pandey
Mumbai , Sept. 21 IN line with its strategy to synergise global product development centres and create a common platform, Emerson Network Power has identified its Indian operations as one of the key product development hubs. The wholly-owned Indian subsidiary, Emerson Network Power India (ENPI), will work on software development for next generation uninterrupted power supply, according to Mr C. Gene Hayden, Vice-President, Emerson Network Power (Asia-Pacific). With a focus on product development for niche areas and single-phase products, the software engineering team at ENPI would also work on developing a component/module of a complete product, Mr Hayden told Business Line. According to Mr Shrikant S. Bapat, Country-Champion-Uptime Solutions, ENPI, the engineering team at the Indian subsidiary would be scaled up significantly, "given the development work that will be done here. We are looking at strengthening our team of 30 engineers over the next one year," Mr Bapat said. Emerson Network Power had embarked on the initiative to converge its product development globally two years back as the move allowed the company to globally source its products and components. Since then, the Indian operations have "gained importance due to the software development expertise found here. The efforts of the Indian team will be collaborated with the hardware depth available at our Chinese facility enabling us to speed upn our development process," remarked Mr Hayden. Further, the collaboration between Emerson's India and China operations would enable the company to develop Asia-specific solutions for the Asian market. Besides India, other important product development centres for Emerson are North America, Europe, Eastern Europe and China. New product initiatives being reviewed for development at ENPI include web-enabled/Internet power monitoring systems and surge protection devices With a 30 per cent year-on-year growth clocked by ENPI, India presents a huge market in particular the telecom and IT segments. The company plans to launch a 30-120 KVA UPS targeted at the IT sector by end-November 2003.
