Data Access inks pact with Telenor

New Delhi , Sept. 23

DATA Access, one of the fastest growing telecom companies in India, on Tuesday signed an agreement with Telenor, the Norwegian telecom major. According to the arrangement worked out, Data Access and Telenor (UK) Ltd. will share complementary network resources.

This, according to a company statement here, will allow Data Access to transmit significant data traffic across global destinations using Telenor's central teleport at London and IP transit facilities. Telenor's UK-based customers, in turn, will enjoy access to Data Access' high power satellite bandwidth capacity. Both Telenor and Data Access customers will now have end-to-end network connectivity at competitive prices and exemplary quality of service (QoS). The deal will be driven by IP and data traffic, although the network is also capable of carrying video and voice.

Elaborating on the arrangement further, Mr Siddhartha Ray, Founder and Managing Director, Data Access said, "This is a win-win situation for both of us. It has always been our endeavour to provide exemplary service standards at affordable tariffs. For our own customers, it means access to high quality teleport and IP transit services. We are of the firm belief this will further strengthen our position in the Indian as well as international telecom market."

Hailing the partnership with Data Access, Mr David Gilmore, Managing Director, Telenor UK, said that internationally, all telecom companies were looking at new revenue streams and ways of reducing costs. The arrangement with Data Access, he said, was a welcome development as "Our network infrastructure complements each other and customers on both these networks will experience cost-effective superior IP, voice and data services. Telenor customers can access a world-class fourth generation network at a reduced bandwidth cost."

Data Access is India's second largest international long distance (ILD) player with a massive 30 per cent share of the total ILD market. The company operates several telecommunications licences in India, the UK and the United States for voice, data and broadcasting services.

Telenor (UK) Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telenor Satellite Broadcasting, within the Telenor ASA Group, the Norwegian telecommunications operator.
