New Projects Coimbatore Residency charts expansion plan Our Bureau
Coimbatore , Sept. 25 THE Residency has, within a decade of commencement of operations in Coimbatore, embarked on an expansion plan. The spurt in occupancy coupled with the growth in business, particularly in the last 12 to 15 months is said to have compelled the management to expand and move forward. The plan envisages introduction of six suites, five Residency Club rooms and revamp and expansion of its 24-hour Coffee Shop. The Executive Director of the Residency Group of Hotels, Mr K.C. Tharyan, said six additional suites comprising a presidential and vice-presidential suite, 4 regular suites and 5 Residency Club rooms have been proposed for now, on an estimated outlay of Rs 1 crore. The sum would be mopped up from its internal accruals, he said. He, however, remained tight-lipped on the estimated spend for giving a facelift to the Coffee Shop. "Post-facelift, the Coffee Shop would be able to serve an additional 45 covers, increasing the total capacity to 100," Mr Tharyan said. According to Mr Julius Fernandes, General Manager of the Coimbatore arm of The Residency, the overall growth in business had gone up by over 10 per cent when compared to the earlier year. But the inflow of travellers from the international segment had risen to touch a high of 32 per cent. To a question on occupancy, he maintained that it was hovering around the 70 per cent mark, which was quite comfortable for the present. `We are anticipating higher occupancy levels within the next two to three years and preparing ourselves to enhance our value in the market place. There is a visible pick up in business activity. The climate is positive for growth', he added. The Residency, according to Mr Fernandes has assiduously cultivated a clientele base of Repeat guests, which is 26 per cent of the total clientele. While conceding that it was difficult to get quality manpower, Mr Fernandes also pointed out that the attrition rate in the hotel industry was `very high'. "Opportunities are manifold today. It is not just jumping from one hotel to another, but new opportunities are opening up like in the call centre business, the BPO services etc," he told Business Line. "The Residency strived to retain its employees by developing them from within," he said.
