Retailing Lladro plans to expand with Mumbai boutique Nina Varghese
Chennai , Sept. 25 LLADRO plans to expand in India with a 10,000 sq. ft boutique in Mumbai, according to Ms Angelique O'Brien, Country Manager, Spa Agencies (India), the sole distributor in India for Lladro. Lladro also plans a limited edition of the Radhakrishna figurine. The brand has been in India for the last five years and has four boutiques, one museum and five corners. The four boutiques are in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata. The showroom in Delhi is a museum and occupies around 3,800 sq. ft. Ms O'Brien said that the second store in Mumbai would be either in Worli or in Juhu. The company's retail turnover today has gone from Rs 1 crore in 2001 to Rs 8 crore this year, Ms O'Brien said. The main reason for the increase in turnover was the introduction of the limited edition of the Lladro Ganesha, she added. It was launched in 2001 and the price at that time was Rs 69,000. Today, the price is Rs 3 lakh. The prices of the products range from Rs 2,500 to Rs 16.5 lakh. Besides the limited edition, Lladro also has an event sale. Ms O'Brien said that a figurine would be available for sale only on a particular day. For instance, Lladro will be celebrating its five-year presence in Chennai with an event to which all it loyalty club members would be invited. The product will be available only for the two days of the event, after which the person would have to travel to another city to pick it up. All Lladro figurines are insured at 33 per cent. In case of breakage, one can walk into any Lladro showroom anywhere in the world (even after a number of years) and get a similar piece or another one at a discount of 65 per cent, Ms O'Brien said. The customer has to ensure was that the Lladro Assurance Form was filled in. Lladro is manufactured in Valencia in northern Spain and shipped to India, either through Singapore or Colombo.
