Software `PeopleSoft now has more to offer than SAP' Tunia Cherian George Anna Peter
Tunia Cherian George Anna Peter Mumbai , Sept. 25 FOLLOWING the acquisition of JD Edwards, PeopleSoft and JD Edwards customers will have a larger suite of products to choose from, considering that PeopleSoft is not likely to phase out any of JD Edwards products, but build on its existing product portfolio, those of JD Edwards and draw on cost and scale synergies of the two firms. Mr Ram Gupta, Executive Vice-President, Products and Technology, PeopleSoft Inc, told Business Line that his company would bring out three families of products: PeopleSoft EnterpriseOne, PeopleSoft Enterprise and PeopleSoft World. Regarding its recent $1.9-billion acquisition of the software solutions major JD Edwards, Mr Gupta said that the acquisition was completed in a record time of two months as against the norm of 4 months. He said: "The Oracle saga is behind us, thanks to the customer support we received." He added that though the integration in India had kept pace with that of PeopleSoft and JD Edwards operations globally, the management was still exploring options regarding JD Edwards' contract with Covansys and PeopleSoft's own tie-up with Hexaware, both in India. Mr Gupta said that India had recorded the fastest growth for PeopleSoft in the JPAC (Japan-Asia-Pacific) region, garnering 120 customers since setting up shop in India in 1999. He added that PeopleSoft had set up hubs across the world in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Sao Paolo (Brazil), Vancouver (Canada), Bangalore and in Denver and Pleasanton in the US. With the acquisition, Mr Gupta claimed that the company had a product portfolio that was larger than that of SAP, the current market leader, which was being given "a run for its money". However, he emphasised that though some of its products had been developed by JD Edwards they were now part of the PeopleSoft brand.
