Bangalore , Sept. 25

JUNIPER Networks Inc on Thursday opened a new development facility here and announced the extension of its technical certification programmes to Indian engineers.

The Bangalore development centre, the second outside the US, would focus initially on systems testing and developing software components for Juniper's new products, said the company's Executive Vice-President for product development, Mr Ashok Krishnamurthi.

"The Bangalore facility is the logical extension of our global development operations and has about 27 engineers," he said, adding it could accommodate 85 professionals. Mr Krishnamurthi declined to comment on the investments that Juniper made in expanding its Indian operations.

Mr Paul McNulty, Customer Service Director for Asia-Pacific at Juniper, said the company was also evaluating the possibility of offering customer support services for its regional customers from the India development facility.

Commenting on the certification programme, Mr McNulty said "We have shortlisted a couple of Indian firms experienced in the networking space who have the necessary technical expertise and expect to sign up with them soon."

Juniper has 19 customers in India and the prominent among its clientele are BSNL, Dishnet DSL, HCL Infinet, BSES Telecom and Data Access among others.

"We have had significant wins in the recent past especially in the service provider space, data centres, mobile firms and IP infrastructure firms," Mr Krishnamurthi said, adding that the company was in a advantageous position in emerging markets like India wherein latest wireless technologies were being adopted.
