Outsourcing Nothing can stem BPO tide, says TiE Our Bureau
Kochi , Sept. 25 DESPITE mounting odds, nobody can stop the tide of business process outsourcing and business will finally gravitate towards the cheapest and most efficient sources, Mr Gururaj Desh Deshpande, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TiE, has said. Echoing his view, Mr C.K. Prahalad, international management expert, said despite the roadblocks created by Governments, most top global companies had said they would go ahead with BPO. He was addressing mediapersons prior to an interactive session organised by TiE Kerala on `Building an Entrepreneurial Kerala'. Over 20 million Indians settled abroad had not only touched international benchmarks in their specific field of operation, but raised the benchmark levels to new heights. By doing so, now several developed countries have become scared of Indian technology, Mr Kanwal Rekhi, former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of TiE and President and CEO of Ensim Corporation, said. Recounting their experiences, office-bearers of TiE global said in many instances, customer connectivity and corporate connectivity in the West were found inadequate to meet Indian standards and requirements. In one instance where an Indian company was supposed to provide software solutions to a large European banking chain, both the systems and connectivity had to be upgraded to meet the requirements of the Indian company, they recalled. Referring to the Mata Amritandamayi hospital in Kochi, he said it is unique in being among the top few all-digital hospitals in the world. He narrated an instance of how farmers in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have begun to access the computer and the Net to access futures prices prevailing in Chicago Board of Trade before fixing a price for their soyabean crop. It is time that India made its achievements more visible. "Being at the bottom of the pyramid gives us a cutting edge to deploy technology at the lowest cost and enables us to compete in the global markets effectively," he said.
