Madurai , Sept. 25

AN exclusive educational satellite, Edusat, is to be launched in 2004, by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), according to the scientist Dr B. Vedachalam, Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre, Thiruvananthapuram.

He told presspersons that the proposed satellite is primarily meant for promoting nationwide education. In addition to making possible inter-university courses, the satellite would widen the reach of UGC programmes and distance education. It would facilitate telecast of important academic programmes across the country to ensure that quality education is not only for the privileged.

Dr Vedachalam was in the city to participate and deliver the convocation address at the annual convocation of the Madura College (Autonomous) here.
