`GoM has taken note of norms violation charge against Reliance Info'

New Delhi , Sept. 25

THE Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telecom has taken note of the `violation' of the limited mobility licence norms by Reliance Infocomm, according to Mr Arun Shourie, Union Communications Minister.

Talking to newspersons after the meeting of the GoM here today, Mr Shourie said a report by the Telecom Engineering Centre (TEC) stated that the WLL services of one operator — which the Minister later named as Reliance — was not in `spirit' with the licence conditions and recommendations of the Group of Telecom and IT.

There were allegations by cellular operators that Reliance Infocomm was violating limited mobility norms by offering roaming services to its customers.

The GoM is yet to take a final view on enforcement of limitedness of the WLL services. On the proposed unification of basic and cellular licences, the Minister said the Government has requested the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to make a detailed presentation on the subject at the next meeting of the GoM slated for October 4.

Mr Shourie said the GoM has also asked the noted banker, Mr Deepak Parekh, to make a presentation on issues such as spectrum fee and unified licence.
