Airlines Air discount rules relaxed for seniors from October Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi , Sept. 25 THERE'S some good news for senior citizens wishing to travel by air from October on the domestic circuit. The Government has relaxed the rules for discounts. From October 1, a passenger availing of the discount will have to stay only two nights instead of seven days mandated at present, to be eligible for the discount. The Government order states that tickets issued on or after September 24 for travel commencing on or after October 1 this year will be on the new revised conditions. However, partly utilised tickets used before September 23 will be required to follow the existing stipulation of having to stay seven days in a particular city to avail of the discount. The rules governing senior citizens' discounts were changed earlier this year as the airlines incurred huge losses. Further, from October 1, students from the Northeast will be entitled to student's concessions even if their air travel is only between the seven States in the Northeast and Kolkata or in the opposite direction. However, the student's discounts will only be provided to residents of the Northeastern region. As a general rule, student's discount is only available for air travel between the city in which the student resides and the place where they are studying.
