Publishing industry making it big in foreign markets

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Sept. 27

THE Indian publishing industry is making greater inroads into foreign markets as well. The industry's exports alone have grown at a phenomenal rate in the last ten years, from Rs 33 crore in 1991-92 to Rs 360 crore in the last financial year.

In a bid to encourage this trend, the Federation of Publishers' & Booksellers' Associations (FPBAI) at their annual general meeting on Saturday decided to increase focus on exports to boost sales.

Speaking at the AGM, Mr Sukumar Das, President, FPBAI, said, "Export has been another area of growth and we plan to give further impetus to export by participating in more international book fairs. India is already exporting to African countries, West Asia, South Asian Countries, the UK and the US and we plan to tap newer markets in the years to come. We are also organising workshops on export to give publishers better understanding of the world market".
