Currency wars

This is with reference to the article "America's currency wars" (Business Line, September 29).

The article suggests that China continues to be competitive since its currency value has remained fixed since 1994. Then why do Indian exporters cry for devaluation of the rupee to remain competitive?

Eminent economists and bankers have held the view that to remain competitive, the rupee has to be devalued. This dichotomy between Indian currency and foreign currency needs to be resolved. Otherwise, India can hardly take a cue from China's growth.
