Kinfra workshop to identify export infrastructure in Kerala

Our Bureau

Kochi , Sept. 29

THE Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra), in association with Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) has organised a workshop on identification of infrastructure requirements for increasing exports from the State.

The focus of the workshop was on sharing of experiences and best practices for identifying infrastructure requirements for export markets from Kerala and to develop right strategies, partnerships and strategic alliances for increasing exports.

The State Minister for Industries, Mr P.K. Kunhalikutty, said on the occasion that the Government had taken major policy initiatives for promoting exports from the State.

A State-level export promotion committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary and Kinfra has been identified as the nodal agency for implementing the ASIDE (assistance to States for developing export infrastructure and allied activities) scheme of the Union Government.

The Minister said that Kerala's vision on exports is to increase its share in national exports from the present level of 3 per cent to 10 per cent by 2007.

He cautioned that with free global trade coming into existence by 2005, the exporters may have to face severe challenges and stiff competition.

In the gloabalised economic scenario, exports remain as a major engine of growth and the success of each State in developing its export sector depends on pro-business policies of the Government, inflow of foreign direct investments and active support of the Government in easing restrictions or barriers and developing the required infrastructure to boost the exports.
