Vizag stays on top in cargo handling

VISAKHAPATNAM has retained its lead position during the past six months of the current financial year and all efforts would be made to maintain the same trend, Mr K. Ratna Kishore, new Chairman of the port, has said.

At his first press meet here, after assuming charge, he said from April to September this year 231.44 lakh tonnes of cargoes had been handled by the port against 228.21 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year.

The ore handling complex had handled 38.24 lakh tonnes of iron ore and pellets against 33.40 lakh tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
