Channels and Franchises Linc plans to make Uniball range of pens Our Bureau
Kolkata , Sept. 30 LINC Pen & Plastics Ltd has initiated talks with Mitsubishi Pencil Co Ltd of Japan to manufacture the latter's Uniball range of pens under licence in India. The arrangement is expected to be firmed up by the end of the current fiscal. At present, Linc Pens imports the Uniball range from Japan before marketing them in India. Stating this during an interface with newspersons at the conclusion of the company's ninth annual general meeting held here on Tuesday, Mr Deepak Jalan, Managing Director of Linc Pens & Plastics Ltd, said the company presently manufactures six lakh pens and four lakh refills per day at its manufacturing facilities located in Kolkata and Goa. A total of Rs 34 crore has been invested in the business, mostly on moulds that are imported from Taiwan and Korea. Mr Jalan said West Bengal, Bihar, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh were among the major markets in India and the US and UK were major markets overseas. Last fiscal, the company earned Rs 7 crore from exports. Of this, Linc pens worth Rs 3 crore was exported to the Walmart chain. Linc Pens, which registered a turnover of Rs 63.30 crore in 2002-03, is hopeful of recording a 30 per cent growth in the current fiscal. Exports, too, were expected to grow at the same rate, according to Mr Jalan.
