Bangalore , Sept. 30

INDIAN Telephone Industries (ITI) has signed a technology transfer agreement with ZTE of China for making CDMA (code division multiple access) equipment.

Addressing shareholders at the 53rd annual general meeting, ITI's Chairman and Managing Director, Mr V.K. Pandey, said here that a similar arrangement was also in the process for GSM equipment.

These initiatives were being taken to take advantage of the phenomenal growth in the mobile communications sector.

Mr Pandey also said that the company was still examining the viability of making GSM handsets. This was in addition to the planned production of GSM/CDMA switches.

ITI planned to set up an exclusive production line for export of electronic equipment to ensure the consistent revenue streams. ITI, he said, also planned to focus on revenue sharing in networking projects, production of next generation of Internet Protocol switches and C/DWDM (coarse/dense wave division multiplexing).
