Sun unveils network computing products

SUN Microsystems on Tuesday announced the Sun Java System in India, which it claimed to be a radical approach for reducing costs and complexity from network computing.

Details of two product lines of Sun Java System — the Sun Java Enterprise System and the Sun Java Desktop System — were announced by the company's Director of Sales for South Asia, Mr Terence Ng, in Bangalore on Tuesday.

These two product lines break new ground especially in terms of pricing, security and interoperability issues, Mr Terence Ng said adding that going in for these products could ensure savings for enterprises up to 70 per cent of the current costs.

The Sun Java Enterprise System forms a complete system of open standards-based software integrated as one entity. The company expects to target media firms, retail, financial institutions, telecom companies, healthcare, Government and transportation sector, he said.
