Direct tax revenues rise 15 pc

THE country's direct tax revenues rose by 15.07 per cent on the back of a sharp 28.5 per cent growth in corporate tax collections in the April to September period this year.

According to a Finance Ministry statement, the total tax collections in the half year stood at Rs 32,885 crore as against Rs 28,597 crore in the same period last year. Corporate tax collections went up to Rs 16,637 crore from Rs 14,501 crore in the same period last year.

Income tax collections were nearly flat, rising from Rs 14,077 crore in the April-September period last year to Rs 14,247 crore this year, a rise of 1.21 per cent, the statement said.
