Our Bureau

Bangalore , Sept. 30

AMIDST strong speculation of his joining one of the leading multinational IT companies or launching his own business in BPO, the Karnataka Secretary for Information Technology and Bio-Technology, Mr Vivek Kulkarni, has sought voluntary retirement from the Government.

Mr Kulkarni proceeded on leave from Monday pending approval of his request for voluntary retirement.

Official sources confirmed that Mr Kulkarni had sought voluntary retirement, but said his request had been forwarded to the Union Government for its decision.

He met the Chief Secretary, Mr B.S. Patil, on Monday to handover a letter requesting for voluntary retirement.

Mr Kulkarni's request for leaving the Government comes barely a month from the Bangalore IT.com, which is to be staged by the Government in November.

He is the second bureaucrat in the department to take such a decision. Mr Sanjay Das Gupta, who was his predecessor also quit the Government to pursue a career in a private IT company.

Meanwhile, official sources said on Tuesday that no order had been issued with regard to the responsibilities of Mr Kulkarni being given to somebody in the IT Department.
