Mumbai , Oct. 1

CASTROL has launched an all-India rock competition called `Castrol Power 1 Garage Rock.'

The objective is to revive rock music in India by creating a national stage for professional and upcoming bands to display their talent, according to a news release.

Region-wise competitions will be held in Pune, Bangalore, Kolkata and Delhi in October, and one band from each zone will make it to the finale in Mumbai in November.

Judges for the competition will include Leslie Luis, Remo Fernandes, Gary Lawyer, Sanjay Maroo and Rajeeta Hemwani. The winning band will get to make an album with a leading music label, in addition to cash prizes, the release added.

"(It) gives us an opportunity to connect with our target group by speaking their language and using a platform which is relevant to them," Mr Sumeet Wadhwa, Senior Brand Manager, Castrol India Ltd, was quoted as saying. "Rock music is energising, exciting and alive... it symbolises attitude, energy and power, which our core target audience easily identifies with."

Castrol Power 1 is a four-stroke motorcycle engine oil targeted at people who are passionate and enthusiastic about their bikes, according to the company. This group tends to patronise rock music.
