Airlines Marketing - Promotions & Offers IA launches new `Smart Voyager' schemes Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct. 1 THE next time you feel like travelling for free to the US, the UK or France, just take 12 flights with Indian Airlines (IA) on the major metro routes between now and December 31, 2003. In an effort to stimulate the domestic market and garner a larger market share, IA has launched two new incentive schemes `Smart Voyager 12' which entitles a passenger to assured return ticket to any AI destination in Europe and US and `Smart Voyager 3'. While refusing to disclose details of how earlier promotional schemes launched by the airline had fared, the airlines General Manager, Marketing Services, Ms Manjira Khurana, claimed that the airlines had seen an increase in passenger carriage on an year-to-year basis. "If one was to compare the number of passengers which IA carried last year and what we are carrying now there has been an increase. Besides, the recently launched Fortune 50 scheme is seeing an upsurge in passengers especially frequent flyers," Ms Khurana said. Passenger participating in Smart Voyager 3 scheme, which is also on till December 31, have to undertake three flights on either IA or its subsidiary Alliance Air, to be eligible to participate in a lucky draw with the first prize winner getting a holiday package for two to Paris. Besides, there are also 50 other consolation prizes of return air tickets on the IA network. IA officials claimed that there was no choice except to launch such schemes as the market was not growing although more capacity was being added. "Last month alone a private sector airline added 3,000 more seats although the growth in market has been miniscule. There is just far too much capacity than what is required by the market," officials said.
