FCI extends tender date for rice sale

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Oct. 6

THE Food Corporation of India (FCI) has extended the tenders for sale of rice, which is 3 or more years old, from October 6 to October 22. Tenders were opened on September 23.

"I think the tender date has been extended due to poor participation from traders," a leading rice trader said.

The quantities offered under ABC varieties (1998 and 1999) will be just 5,829 tonne and the quantities offered under URS (Under Rejection Scheme) will remain unchanged at around 1 lakh tonne.

The total quantities indicated in the sale offer as on September 23 were about 3.70 lakh tonne old rice lying in FCI depots at various States in the country, which included 2.77-lakh tonne ABC categories rice and 1-lakh tonne old rice (1997-98 and 1998-99) under URS (Under Rejection Scheme).
