Softex Digital photo editor for Siemens mobiles

Sankar Radhakrishnan

Thiruvananthapuram , Oct. 6

FOR users of the MC 60, the latest cellular phone from Siemens AG, the inbuilt camera and the photo editor that comes with it are useful features. For the Thiruvananthapuram-based Softex Digital Pvt Ltd, which developed the photo editor used in this mobile phone, it is a reaffirmation of the company's ability to compete in the global market, says Mr R.P. Lalaji, Chairman, Softex group.

Warping, layering, colour enhancement and adding text to the image are some of the features available on the photo editor. The company is now working on "porting" this software to all other cellular phones to be launched by Siemens over the next few years, adds Mr Lalaji.

The company, which has been designated an `advanced development partner' by Siemens, has already developed cellular phone games for the electronics major, he says. "So when Siemens asked us for possible value additions to the MC 60 we suggested a feature that would combine fun and utility," explains Mr Lalaji. Developing the photo editor was an intellectually challenging process as the programmers had to include several complex features, but also had to ensure that the code they wrote was extremely concise, Mr Lalaji explains. "The whole process took us about five months," he adds.
