People Top-level changes at LG Our Bureau
New Delhi , Oct. 6 THE Korean electronics and durables major, LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd (LGEIL), has seen top-level changes once again. Close on the heels of recasting its top deck and splitting the portfolio of heads of sales and marketing, the company on Monday entrusted Mr Girish V. Rao as the Head of Sales. He will be taking the place of Mr Ganesh Mahalingam. In fact, it was only recently that the company had entrusted Mr Anil Arora as the Head of Marketing, while Mr Mahalingam had retained the sales function. According to the company, as the Head of Sales, Mr Rao, who has moved in from BPL, will be responsible for expanding the sales network, managing trade relationships, developing new businesses and further garnering a greater pie of the market for LG. Commenting on these changes, industry insiders told Business Line, "Whether top movements impact the functioning of a company depends entirely on the circumstances under which the changes have taken place. However, continuity is always good for an organisation and movements at key positions may not always be right." Speculations regarding Mr Mahalingam quitting the company had been in air for some time now. He took over as the operating Head of Sales and Marketing when Mr Pradeep Tognatta, who was serving as the Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), had decided to leave the organisation citing health reasons early this year. Brushing aside market comments on frequent top-level changes taking place in the company, a company official said, "this was not the case.'' When contacted Mr Mahalingam said, "Currently I am evaluating various options. The movement is not likely to be in the same industry." Mr Mahalingam has been closely associated with LG's most high profile sponsorship initiative, the cricket World Cup 2003 and other cricket activities like Champions Trophy and so on. He also handled the company's contractual issues and entitlements for such events.
