CavinKare group co plans more salons in Chennai

Ajita Shashidhar

Chennai , Oct. 7

AFTER witnessing an almost 14 per cent growth month on month in its salon business, Trends In Vogue Pvt Ltd, a group company of the Chennai-based FMCG major, CavinKare Pvt Ltd, is on an expansion spree.

Speaking to Business Line, Mr S. Jagdish, Head, Retail and Corporate Communications, CavinKare Ltd, said that the company is planning to set up at least seven new salons in Chennai by the end of this year.

Mr Jagdish said that the new salons would be a mix of Green Trends, the company's mid-segment chain of unisex salons, and Limelite, which caters to the premium segment. "The focus now would clearly be on unisex salons, as we see a lot of potential in this segment. Customers nowadays prefer to visit a unisex parlour where the entire family's beauty needs can be catered to at one go," he said.

Apart from this, Mr Jagdish said that Indian men were also beginning to give importance to personal grooming, which again had contributed a great deal to the growth of unisex salons.

"Men are graduating beyond the basic services of a shave and a haircut," he said.

After Chennai, CavinKare is also planning to expand its Green Trends and Limelite salon chains to other cities in southern India.

"We hope to set up salons in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kochi, Ernakulam and Manipal by next year," said Mr Jagdish.

He said that the company plans to look northwards for its salon business in 2005.
