IPC plans visit to rope in Vietnam as member

THE Chairman, Spices Board, who is currently the Chairman of Jakarta-based International Pepper Community (IPC), has sent a proposal to the Commerce Ministry for sending a delegation to Vietnam to expedite its early entry into IPC.

The purpose of the proposed visit of the delegation, comprising representatives of IPC member-countries led by its Chairman, Mr C.J. Jose, is to hold discussions with the Vice-Minister, Agriculture, of the Vietnam, to expedite its joining the IPC, a senior official at the Spices Board told Business Line on Tuesday.

Besides, he said, the delegation would hold discussions to promote pepper consumption in Vietnam. It would also visit the pepper plantations and the processing facilities available in that country for understanding the methods followed there.

He said the delegation would also make an effort to educate the pepper producing and exporting community on the need for market intervention.
