A riot of colours

An amused child plays with painted chicks at his home in Thrissur. The chicks, brought from Namakkal in Tamil Nadu, are a hot-sell in Thrissur district. They are priced at Rs 10 for three. Though the birds are now painted in bright colours to enhance their saleability, traditionally it was done to distract predatory birds.
