New Delhi , Oct. 7

THE Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has advised the public sector oil marketing companies to defer the process of selection of their dealers and distributors in the States that go to polls till the election process is completed.

The five States going to the polls in the coming months are Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Delhi. Similarly, the dealer selection process is to be kept in abeyance in certain districts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh also where bye-elections have been announced for the state legislative assemblies.

The oil marketing PSUs, it may be recalled, have commenced the process of selection of dealers and distributors of their petroleum products after the Government gave them the freedom to do so following the deregulation of the oil sector. The oil marketing PSUs, according to an official statement here, have been told to keep the selection process on hold as the model code of conduct has come into force in Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan where voting is scheduled for December 1 and in Mizoram where voting will take place on November 20.
