Chennai , Oct. 8

THE Tamil Nadu Government has come out with a list of seven international exhibitions and four national events during 2003-04 to participate in which small and medium IT and IT enabled services companies from the State can avail of a subsidy.

The international events are the CeBIT Asia at Shanghai, China (September 18-21, 2003); GITEX 2003, Dubai, UAE (October 19-23); 2004 Outsourcing World Summit, Florida, US (February 23-25, 2004); CeBIT Hannover, Germany (March18-24, 2004); SMAU, Milan, Italy (November 12-15, 2003); and, Comdex USA (November 17-20, 2003).

The national events are Connect 2003, Chennai (September 18-21); BangaloreIT.Com (November 1-5); GITEX, Hyderabad (January 22-24, 2004); and Indiasoft (February 10-12, 2004).

It may be recalled that the IT policy unveiled in 2002 had said that a 30 per cent subsidy on stall charges to enable small and medium sized IT and IT enabled services companies from the State with a turnover not exceeding Rs 10 crore to participate in these events.

According to a recent Government Order, the subsidy will be given to companies whose turnover does not exceed Rs 10 crore during the financial year 2001-02. The companies wanting to avail of this subsidy must intimate the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu, a State Government agency, in advance and also collect a seniority number.

The subsidy will be restricted to 10 companies on a first-come-first-served basis, and will be available only for companies with their registered offices in the State. The subsidy shall be restricted to 30 per cent of the actual amount paid subject to a ceiling of Rs 45,000 for international exhibitions and Rs 27,000 for the national fairs. The State Government will not object to the companies receiving any travel aid or subsidy they may receive from the Government of India for participating in these fairs.
