Software Tech majors scan Hyderabad for investment V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , Oct. 8 SEVERAL global technology corporations, including Computer Associates International Inc, Computer Sciences Corporation and the European diversified media and financial services major Reuters, are among a host of big guns eyeing centres in India and are stated to be in the process of finalising Hyderabad as their new destination. The Managing Director and Head of India operations of Computer Sciences Corporation, Dr Arun Maheshwari, told Business Line recently that the company, which currently had three centres in the North, was in the process of finalising plans for two more centres one in the North and one in the South and Hyderabad was top on its agenda. The company has also enlisted the services of consultant Jones Long Lasalle to facilitate its efforts to locate a centre in the South. Computer Associates (CA), an e-Business solutions provider, has four sales and support offices located in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata. Recent report indicated that CA had drawn up plans to recruit several hundreds of workers in India and China to bring down costs. The Chief Executive Officer of CA, Mr Sanjay Kumar, is reported to have communicated this to the company employees. In fact, during his visit to the US, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, had called on the CA team to impress upon them to locate their facility in Hyderabad, a Government official said. Both CSC and CA were in parleys with the Government, a senior Government official told Business Line. While Dr Maheswari has interacted with Mr Naidu who was keen that the CSC locate its development cum support centre in Hyderabad, a senior management team from Reuters had earlier this year visited Hyderabad. It was mulling back office support services centre in Hyderabad and parleys were on, official sources said. One of the reason some of software companies, and particularly those engaged in the business process outsourcing and related services, are eyeing Hyderabad is the fact that they are able to leverage the talent pool available here and also benefit from some of the tax sops extended as a part of the State' policy framework that supports IT ES sector. Some leading global corporations including Oracle, Microsoft, and Indian majors Satyam, Infosys and TCS too have embarked on a rapid expansion drive here.
