HEWLETT-Packard India, which rolled out its half-a-millionth PC at its integrated manufacturing facility -- the India Configuration centre - here today said it expected robust growth in PC sales in the coming quarters.

The IDC-rated No 1PC vendor in India says it will expand operations in all customer segments — the individual consumer, small and medium businesses and the enterprise segment, according to Mr Balu Doraisamy, President, HP India.

Hardware manufacturing would continue to be supported and encouraged by the State, according to Minister of State for IT, Mr D.B. Inamdar, on the occasion of the 5,00,000th PC being gifted to the charity, the Ramakrishna Mission.

HP now plans to roll out wireless-enabled products from its ICC where it currently makes consumer PCs, commercial PCs, notebooks, servers and workstations, said Mr Doraisamy. The SME was the strongest growth segment for HP, saidMr Doraisamy, adding that as telecom and data communication infrastructure in India improved, there would be an explosion in the demand for portable devices. HP sees the Indian market growing rapidly across all consumer segments and its 30,000-units per month plant catering to the rising demand.

The market for notebooks, though with a small base, was expected to grow at more that 50 per cent year-on-year and HP expected to have over 30 per cent market share, according to the Mr Ravi Swaminathan, Vice-President, HP India.
