Culture symbols

This is with reference to "Bali holds clues to India's past religious life"(Business Line, October 14). The report was timely and interesting. In spite of the current political and religious situation in the States of that region, it is expected of the Indian Government to help the retention of the heritage sites in those countrie.

The contribution of the early Indian kings to the region is systematically being obliterated. In this context, one finds it odd that a television channel on October 12 reported that the Indian Government has denied the reported move of the Bali Governor to help preserve Indian culture there. This only shows that the Indian Government is not clear in its views. Why should it fight shy of preserving ancient Indian culture in the region?
