Good response to ESPN's Indian soccer telecast

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Oct 15

INDIAN soccer does have its share of dedicated television viewers.

The recent telecast of the final between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan in the Chlor-mint IFA Shield on ESPN registered a high viewership in Kolkata. The two semi-finals also recorded fairly high ratings in Kolkata. Therefore, ESPN's chance with domestic soccer appears to have paid off.

ESPN said it had a 50.5 per cent share of all male from SEC A, B and C TV viewers in Kolkata.

"We have been looking at sports besides cricket to reach our consumers and in football we have found a strong regional sport,'' ESPN said in a release.
