Alliances & Joint Ventures Variety - Resorts & Amusement Parks Poovar Resort ties up with Club Mahindra Sankar Radhakrishnan
Thiruvananthapuram , Oct. 17 THE Poovar Island Resort located some 30 km south of Thiruvananthapuram has entered into a partnership with Club Mahindra Holidays, the flagship brand of Mahindra Holidays and Resorts India Ltd. As per the terms of the agreement, time-share members of Club Mahindra will be entitled to year-round access to six cottages, including four floating cottages, at the Poovar Island resort. Disclosing this to Business Line, Mr M.R. Narayanan, Managing Director, Poovar Island Resort, said the 26-year agreement is beneficial to both organisations and marks Club Mahindra's entry into southern Kerala. The resort's average occupancy level, particularly during the `off' season, is expected to rise as a consequence of this partnership, he added. Meanwhile, the resort is in the midst of an expansion project intended to augment its existing facilities. On the anvil is a new floating restaurant, which is expected to open in a few weeks. The restaurant, which will seat approximately 40 people, will have a menu that is strong on seafood, said Mr Narayanan. Also in the pipeline is a 12,000 sq. ft. spa and ayurvedic centre intended to replace the resort's existing ayurveda treatment centre. This facility will offers guests a choice of both ayurvedic and non-ayurvedic therapy options under the supervision of qualified personnel, he said. In fact, the resort is in the process of constructing a special floating cottage for use by guests undergoing a course of ayurvedic treatment, he explained. The fittings in this cottage will be made using medicinal woods, he pointed out. Besides the `ayurvedic cottage', two more floating cottages and several regular cottages will soon be ready, he said. The resort, which opened for business three years ago, now has 32 cottages, including nine floating cottages. It is among the earliest to introduce floating cottages built on laminated ferro-cement platforms in this part of the world.
