Supply Chain Management `Postal carton becomes a roaring success' L.N. Revathy
Coimbatore , Oct. 20 THOUGH wrapping a gift is no mean task, if the same has to be despatched to a distant destination, one would have to take extra care in packing. Besides packing, one would have to ensure the safe and timely delivery of the parcel. After examining the immense potential for such services, India Post has launched a national product - Speed Post and Express Parcel Carton. Speaking to Business Line, Ms Shanthi Nair, Postmaster General, Western Region, said that the postal department, in a bid to bail out its customers from the hassles of packaging, had started marketing cardboard boxes (on a trial basis) in seven different sizes. "They are not mere boxes. The customer will need to just fill in the destination address in the space provided for the purpose, insert the article and seal the box. The box is ready for despatch. Customers are enthused by this move," she said and pointed out that with the festival season round the corner, there was a great demand for the cartons. A small white corrugated box that can carry a compact diskette, greeting cards to boxes of varying dimensions (with the India Post logo) are on offer at reasonable rates. "We are not looking at huge margins. We prefer to offer good service at affordable rates," she said and pointed out that the product has "caught on like wild fire". "The postal carton is a rage. A roaring success.
