Cultivation Organic farming drive in Kerala Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Department of Agriculture will formulate a separate scheme for promoting organic farming in the State. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by the Agriculture Minister, Ms K. R. Gowri, which deliberated on the specifics of the action plan formulated by the department for promoting organic farming. A number of useful suggestions, such as extending organic farming to the entire State through a phased programme, preparation of a "package of practice" on different methods of organic farming, creating an awareness among the farming population about its different facets, helping them find a ready market for products raised through resort to organic farming and finalising a logo for such products, were aired at the meeting. Among those who attended the meeting were Mr C. Ramachandran, Agricultural Products Commissioner, Mr V. P. Joy, Secretary, Agriculture, Mr K. R. Jyothilal, Director, Agriculture, and scientists drawn from a large number of research and development institutions under the department.
