German agri fair to highlight Indian farm equipment market

Kolkata , Oct. 26

IN spite of the setback to the Doha round of negotiations at Cancun over agriculture issues, farm machinery and equipment manufacturers of major European countries, the US, Canada are understood to have agreed in principle to promote India as one of their major market destinations. They feel that India, next to China, can either be a direct consumer or a manufacturing base for third countries.

Keeping this in mind, 36 developed countries are reported to have agreed to participate in the " Agri Technica 2003" Fair, to be organised by the German Agricultural Society (known in German as DLG) at the Hanover Exhibition ground between November 11 and 15.

The fair is aimed at promoting India as the future destination of agri machinery & equipment market.

A spokesman on behalf of the society told Business Line here that, on the basis of present registrations, more than 1,400 exhibitors from about 120 countries would be presenting their new and future developments. What was interesting to note was that altogether 40 agri machinery manufacturers from the northern and western region of India had agreed to participate and exhibit their products, while two manufacturers associations from Punjab and Maharashtra were on the probable list of participants.

The spokesman said that a complete range of machinery and equipment for modern plant in all exhibition segments, as well as accessories and spare parts, would be presented in thirteen modern exhibition halls on a floor space of 190,000 square metres. Besides the host country — Germany — there will once again be a very strong contingent of exhibitors from Italy. Over 100 Italian firms will be presenting their innovations and further developments in Hanover. Strong interest has also been registered from the Netherlands (43 firms), Austria (35), France (34) and Denmark (25).
