Bangalore , Oct. 27

SUPPORTSOFT has set up a wholly-owned subsidiary in Bangalore. The Nasdaq-listed company supplies service and support automation software for corporates and broadband service providers worldwide.

Mr Craig Chatterton, Country Manager, SupportSoft India, said the subsidiary had recently started operations with about 12 people on board and plans to hire another 25 engineers by the year-end. "We expect to increase our headcount to over 100 in the next couple of years," Mr Chatterton said, even while declining to comment on the investment plans.

The Indian outfit would initially focus on developing software and may take up sales and marketing operations at a later date, he said.

"The company expects to target the booming call centre market in India with its solutions, apart from looking at the original equipment manufacturers and the Internet service providers," Mr Chatterton said. Besides developing core technology in the enterprise vertical, the Indian subsidiary would also be providing services to SupportSoft's customers worldwide, Mr Chatterton said.

Of the 12 product lines, SupportSoft expects to carryout development and upgradation of two software suites in India, Mr Chatterton added.
