CII calls for steps to stem rupee appreciation

Our Bureau

Mumbai Oct. 29

THE Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has called for continued Government support to stem the rupee appreciation against the dollar in an effort to boost exports.

According to Mr Anand Mahindra, CII President, the rupee appreciation has already affected exports from India in a significant measure.

He told presspersons here that if the rupee appreciation continued, China would capitalise on the slowdown on India's export front. "China is waiting for precisely this kind of a situation to take the lead," he felt.
