Health Marketing - New Products & Services Anti-anaemia drug launched Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Nov. 4 TARGETTING the side-effects posed by the drugs used to treat iron deficiency (anaemia), Vanguard Therapeutics Pvt Ltd (VTPL), the city-based pharmaceutical formulations company, has launched a drug using novel drug delivery system. Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, the VTPL Managing Director, Mr P. Koteswara Rao, said the company for the first time in the country has introduced timed-release haematinic capsules of carbonyl iron with zinc and antioxidants. Branded `VIP-Z', the drug has the dual advantage of building blood and foetal cells with simultaneous protection from oxidative free radical stress, Mr Rao claimed. According to him, the existing products in the market were falling short in this respect. VIP-Z, claimed to be containing the latest and best iron called carbonyl iron, given in the timed release dosage system, would be delivered into duodenum, where maximal absorption of iron takes place, bypassing the release in the stomach to avoid gastric upset, Mr Rao said. "Both zinc and antioxidants are timed to be released in the upper portion of the small intestine." Mr Koteswara Rao expected that the new drug of the company would effectively address the most common medical problem of iron intolerance encountered by the doctors in the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia, which was generally dose related and individualistic in nature.
