Calcutta HC directs Biman Bose to file affidavit

Our Legal Correspondent

Kolkata , Nov. 7

IN a contempt of court proceeding, a Division Bench of Calcutta High Court, comprising Mr Justice Ashok Kumar Ganguly, and Mr Justice S.P. Talukdar, on Friday dispensed with the appearance of Mr Biman Bose, Chairman of United Front in West Bengal, directing to file affidavit by 10 weeks and the reply within two weeks thereafter. The matter would be taken up after 12 weeks.

The Contempt Rule was issued for alleged insinuation made by Mr Bose against the judiciary and a judge of the court, as published in newspaper on October 5.

Earlier, on September 29, Mr Justice Amitava Lala passed an order directing that there should be no meeting and procession from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all working days in the city.

This was opposed by the political parties who made varied comments on the decision. Some newspapers published comments made by Mr Bose.
