Special scheme for handicrafts in Kerala

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Minister for Industries, Mr P. K. Kunhalikkutty, has said that the State Government would formulate a special scheme for enabling export of handicraft items in bulk quantities.

There is felt need for popularising Kerala's handicraft products, which are known for their ingenuity and craft. Similar measures had to be initiated for encouraging the enterprise of the poor craftsmen.

Inaugurating a Handicrafts Fair being conducted jointly here by the Union Textiles Ministry and the Kerala Artisans Development Corporation, Mr Kunhalikkutty said there was a perceptible shift among the people, especially in the West, towards natural products. This would translate into unlimited opportunities for Kerala in the export market. It is up to the State and its people to make maximum use of this opportunity.
