German bakery team coming next year

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Nov 7

THE gates to the German market may open up for the Indian bakery products industry, with the scheduled visit of the German bakery delegation to India in March 2004.

The proposed visit is to scout for opportunities for supplying technology, equipment and source bakery goods from India. The visit would provide the domestic bakery industry an opportunity to showcase its products, said Mr K.P Mohandas, Secretary, Federation of Biscuit Manufacturers' Association (FBMI).

Also, this visit follows a recent visit to Germany by a joint delegation of the FBMI and the All-India Bread Manufacturers Association (AIBMA) to participate at the International Trade Fair for Bakery Industry at Dusseldorf, Germany.

Another upshot of the AIBMA- FBMI visit was the discussions the delegates had with the bakers and bread manufacturers of the East European countries viz Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary etc.

They evinced keen interest in importing Indian biscuits as also for setting up joint ventures with Indian biscuit manufacturers, both large and medium players, in their countries, according to an FBMI communiqué.
