New Delhi, Nov. 7
THE Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved an `Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme' (IIUS) that seeks to create quality infrastructure in existing industrial clusters/locations with high growth potential.
Initially 20-25 clusters/locations are to be taken up for development in the Tenth Plan period. The scheme has an allocation of Rs 675 crore in the Tenth Plan.
An official statement issued after the CCEA meeting said that the scheme would be operationalised on those clusters/locations that require strategic interventions in providing common facilities for transport, road, water, power, gas/fuel supply, effluent treatment and solid waste disposal. In addition, the statement claimed that product design; information and communication technology support would also be provided.
The scheme would be implemented through special purpose vehicles (SPV) formed by the cluster/industry associations at the individual cluster level to ensure that the infrastructure development upgradation is user-driven.
