Hyderabad , Nov. 7

JAPA4, the first commercial private FM channel in Andhra Pradesh, has tied up with Telugupeople.com to Web cast its programmes live on the portal.

"The huge NRI population will be able listen to our programmes at the same time as their kin latch on to the popular programme here in Hyderabad," Mr Ilyas Ahmed, Chairman of Japa4, told Business Line.

If not live, the radio channel has already started hosting its programmes on the portal. "They can exchange greetings and dedicate songs," he said.

The effort is being supported by a unique streaming software developed by Telugupeople.com which allows for free and uninterrupted flow of audio files over the Net.

Confirming the agreement, sources in the portal said there was a good revenue model in the arrangement. "Advertisers will have a unique platform to reach out to the audience elsewhere. It will go well provided that the idea is sold well," the sources

The channel, which airs a two-hour programme in the mornings, would be launching another two-hour programme in the evenings in a month. "While the present multi-lingual slot focuses more on Telugu, the upcoming capsule would have a Western flavour," Mr Ahmed said.

"Our ultimate aim is to be come a full-fledged 24-hour channel," he said.

According to him, the industry is looking for the Government nod in this regard.

"The FM heat is fast catching up in the country, giving the radio repair shops brisk business," he said.

Seeing the increased response to the channel, some major companies, including one media group, is showing interest in picking up stake.
