Globalisation

This is with reference to the article "The grammar of globalisation" (Business Line, November 10). The article has rightly points out that globalisation has acquired a much wider connotation and significance.

Today, no multi-national company or firm can claim to be based in a particular company. Globalise or perish is the slogan for survival and success in the corporate sector in the current context.

It is this need for growth that finds an echo in the phenomenon of mergers and acquisitions.

Also, India will witness more and more alliances, joint ventures, and so on. This is due to the LPG (liberalisation, privatisation, and globalisation) syndrome, as pointed out in the article.

It is also possible that such rapid changes will usher in a new world order, and give a new dimension to the global economic environment. For instance, Europe already has a new currency. Total economic integration, however, has a long way to go.

Also, as rightly pointed out in the article, the regional organisations may want to exclude third-party nations from their conglomerate. Hence, it is possible that they may serve as a stepping stone to eventual globalisation on a full-fledged scale. The range and spectrum of this may be vast.

There may also be a tendency to preserve, protect, and persevere one's own value system. Especially, when it is in competition with an alien ethos.

The confluence of corporate and country culture will bring about a synergy that is beyond excellence.
